SEGA® of America Inc., SEGA® Europe Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox Licensing & Merchandising today announced a worldwide exclusive agreement to bring game content based on the critically-acclaimed "Alien" film franchise to next-generation gaming systems. Multiple titles, including a first-person shooter and a role playing game, are currently in pre-production with the first to be released in 2009. Securing the rights to produce "Alien" titles reinforces SEGA's strategy of combining premium licensed content with original IP to aggressively expand its global business.
"As a direct result of Fox's efforts over the past 27 years, Alien has become one of the most recognized franchises in the motion picture industry," said Simon Jeffery, President and Chief Operating Officer, SEGA of America, Inc. "SEGA will utilize the power of next-gen systems to blend the time-honored story with leading edge design technology to deliver a riveting and suspenseful gameplay experience."
"Alien is one of those special franchises that has continued to thrive in licensing long after it has left theaters. The L & M program has been very successful over the years because we have partnered with the best companies in each category and created appealing products that become must-haves for the extremely loyal Alien fans," added Elie Dekel, Executive Vice President, Fox Licensing & Merchandising. "We look forward to partnering with SEGA, a known leader in the gaming industry, to expand the program to the next generation gaming systems and bring the franchise to life with the newest technology and gameplay."
Since its 1979 debut, Alien and its three sequels have grossed more than $557 million worldwide, garnering numerous awards, including two Academy Awards®. In 2002, Alien was deemed "culturally significant" by the United States Library of Congress and was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.

It's still a pretty good ways off, but it's still exciting to hear. I loved the movies and I think that the Alien movies will make for great games.

SWEET!! I love Alien, it's one of most favorite movies. The only one in the franchise I didn't care for was Alien 3, but it was still alright. I hope they get into where the alien space craft from the first film came from. It's always been a mystery and I'd like to know, then again who wouldn't. Since one is an FPS they should get Monolith, their amazing at first person shooters like Condemed: Criminal Origins, which I just rented yesterday and it's f**king awesome, and F.E.A.R. which I hear is amazing though haven't played it yet myself. I wonder how the Alien universe would work in an RPG, though?

I don't know, unless they plan on you playing one character and leveling him up and stuff. Or maybe they'll let you control a group of 4 (like Ultimate Alliance) and fight Predators and other monsters!

I don't think I'd like it if they did it like MUA. They tried to do something like that in Aliens vs Predator Extinction for Ps2 & Xbox and it wasn't very good IMO. I thought the controls sucked.

I'd kinda like to see it something like the way KOTOR is or something to that effect, maybe not the controls, but the way they level up and stuff.

December 12, 2006 - Following SEGA's Alien announcement yesterday, the company told IGN it will name the developers this week in press announcements on Wednesday and Friday.
The two developers are likely Obsidian and Gearbox, best known for their work on Knights of the old Republic: The Sith Lords, and Brothers in Arms, respectively. The two independent developers were listed in the copyright section of SEGA's Alien Website and then promptly removed yesterday.
When phoned, SEGA of America representatives said the developers were posted "erroneously." SEGA added that it could neither confirm nor deny whether they were the correct development teams on the projects.
SEGA has plans to create a first-person shooter and an RPG, so there is logic in working with Gearbox and Obsidian. Gearbox, led by Randy Pitchford, is an excellent first-person shooter developer and is an independent company looking to expand beyond its popular WWI FPS Brothers in Arms series. Obsidian has roots with Black Isle, which created all sorts of fantastic RPG and RTS games under Interplay's watch, so connecting with this company also makes good sense. If these are the two correct developers, then SEGA has done its homework. With the exception of the first FPS games on PC (which were good), the Alien franchise has essentially been butchered in videogame form. Can you imagine what Obsidian will do with Alien as a role-playing game?
Check back this week for SEGA's official announcements.

Now, that is interesting...lol. I just said KOTOR and it looks like Obsidian Ent. may very well get it. Damn I'm good. If there is one thing I know, you can count on Obsidian to make a great game. They are one of the best RPG companies around, bar none. Their founders and such are responsible for games such as: Baldur's Gate (PC), Baldur's Gate II (and it's expansions, Icewind Dale, Icewind Dale II, KOTOR 2, & Neverwinter Nights 2. So, just try to tell me that they don't know anything about RPG's, hell, they practically set the bar for RPGs (IMO).

that would kinda suck though, cause when you kill the bastards you still get hurt. although what i'd like is to evolve a guy in an rpg to the point where he can dance around killing them with sounds while singing. ahh i love doing that in rpg's.
